About the Playwright

D. R. Andersen is the recipient of the Jane Chambers Playwriting Award for his play O PROMISE ME! He has also received the Cummings/Taylor Playwriting Award and the Theater-of-the-Arts Playwriting Prize for FUNNY VALENTINES, which is published by Samuel French and which has had numerous productions around the country and was produced in Canada as DROLE DE VALENTIN. His mystery comedy DANCING IN THE DARK had a successful run in New York and at San Francisco's Theatre Rhinoceros. His most recent work CRAZY AND A HALF, six related one-act comedies, is published by Samuel French and has had successful productions from New York to Los Angeles.

While Playwright-in-Residence at Playwrights Horizons in New York, Mr. Andersen had the following plays produced: MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED, THE HOUSE WHERE I WAS BORN, and UNICORNS AT TWO.

Mr. Andersen's other plays and productions include: MARRY ME! MARRY ME! (Edward Albee's Playwrights Unit and Playwrights Horizons); HIDE IN THE DARK (Main Street Theater/New York); and regional productions of AMERICAN ROULETTE and GARAGE SALE LOVE. In addition, he wrote the books for the musicals A BISTRO CAR ON THE CNR (New York) and THE CASTAWAYS (New York).

Mr. Andersen has written for national television and is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
